3 steps to closing any performance gap

Step 1 - the arrow

Known issue

Broad alignment on the root cause and in the accountability of the team to resolve

Known solution

Solution has been prototyped and feedback from customers & users received - sponsors agree the solution is desirable, viable and feasible

Known impact

Resources can always be found if the impact is sizeable enough and can be achieved in a realistic timescale

Step 2 - the journey

Next month

Momentum is key. Success sells. Challenge the team to find something visible that contributes to next year. Stick it into a kanban, and deliver.

Next year

Build four x 90 day plans of varying detail signed off with at least 2 x sponsors - use terminology from the initial known issue, solution, impact

Next horizon

All successful journeys start with a first step, but many do not complete without a series of motivating milestones. Draft a roadmap or visual view of the future, and revist whenever a 90 day plan is complete.

Step 3 - facilitate action

Make easy

Facilitate means 'make easy'. When you get resistance to change, focus on what would need to be true to make the change easier? Facilitate also means 'to help with an action or process'. One example of this is a proactive sponsor asking ' how can I help?'

Coach courage

Courage cannot be taught, but it can be coached. Courage to communicate, ask for feedback, adapt tactics, act ethically.... every successful leader faces adversity! Facilitate also means having someone neutral who can hold up a mirror, ask questions, help a leader focus. An internal mentor or external coach reduces risk of failure.
